August 2025
On Thursday, August 21st, Jackie Mills and Shirley Becket, representing Berry Basket Quilters, were privileged to present a quilt to US Army veteran Irene Aydelotte. During WW II, Irene served in the Transportation Corps stationed in New York City. Her unit was responsible for sending troops over to Europe and bringing them home again. Irene would greet the troops as they disembarked from the large transport ship, get them on another ship or train, and issue them money to get them home.

Irene, who is affectionately known to her family as “GG” (short for Great Grandma), will shortly be celebrating her 103rd birthday. Irene’s daughter-in-law, Lorraine Aydelotte, assisted in the quilt presentation.

Thank you, Irene, for your service!

Sadly, Irene Aydelotte passed away on August 22, just a day after we visited her.  I am so glad we were able to honor her on Thursday.  I’m sure the family appreciated it and will treasure the quilt.
